Mappleton Beach
East Yorkshire
Mappleton Beach is a quiet, wide sandy beach on the Holderness coast north of Hornsea, accessible via a concrete slipway at the edge of the small village of Mappleton. The beach is largely undeveloped and relatively unknown, attracting dog walkers, anglers and those looking for a peaceful stretch of Yorkshire coast away from the busier resorts. The Holderness coastline here is actively eroding, and Mappleton became the focus of a coastal protection scheme in the 1990s that installed rock armour and the concrete slipway, though the area both north and south continues to recede. The beach is wide and flat, facing east across the North Sea.
Mappleton is listed among the dog friendly beaches of the Yorkshire coast with no reported seasonal restrictions: it does not appear in the ERYC PSPO ban list for Bridlington, Hornsea or Withernsea. The remote character and lack of facilities keep visitor numbers low, making it a consistently good dog friendly destination. The concrete slipway and car park make access easy year-round.
