Hornsea Beach

East Yorkshire

Dog Friendly Rating:5/10Hornsea's main resort beach with seasonal restrictions from 1 May to 30 September on the central section; the South Beach beyond Sands Lane offers year-round dog access.

Hornsea Beach is the main beach of this East Yorkshire resort town on the Holderness coast, a wide sandy beach backed by a promenade and the traditional amenities of a small seaside town. Hornsea is notable for the vast Hornsea Mere just inland, the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire, which forms part of the town's attraction alongside the beach. The promenade is lined with cafes, amusements and beach huts, and the town has a compact centre with shops and pubs within easy walking distance of the seafront. The Freeport outlet shopping village is a short drive from the town.

A seasonal dog ban applies to the main Hornsea beach from 1 May to 30 September under the East Riding PSPO, covering the section between the concrete ramp at Headland View and the steps south of Sands Lane. Dogs must be kept on leads on the adjacent promenade section during the ban period. Hornsea South Beach, south of Sands Lane, is listed separately as a year-round dog friendly section. The area north of Headland View and south of the ban zone both offer dog friendly access for much of the year.
