Newcastle Beach

County Down

Dog Friendly Rating:7/10Newcastle's famous sandy beach below the Mourne Mountains with seasonal restrictions from 1 June to 15 September on the central section, and one of the most dramatic beach settings in Ireland.

Newcastle Beach is the main beach of Newcastle, County Down's most popular seaside resort, set dramatically below the granite peaks of Slieve Donard and the Mourne Mountains. The town has a full range of resort amenities including the Slieve Donard Hotel, cafes, amusements and the famous Royal County Down Golf Club. The beach is wide and sandy, and the Mourne Mountains backdrop is utterly extraordinary.

Newcastle's central beach area has seasonal dog restrictions from 1 June to 15 September under the Down District Council dog control orders, covering the main bathing area adjacent to the promenade. The beach north and south of the restricted zone remains accessible to dogs. Year-round access to the wider beach.
