Mansfield House Hotel

Hawick, Scottish Borders

Yes. Dogs can stay in all rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.

A family run country house hotel near Hawick, with four stars and about ten acres of grounds that dogs are welcome to explore.

Built in the 1800s as a private residence, Mansfield House has been modernised into a stylish and comfortable hotel on the outskirts of Hawick, the Border town known for its rugby, knitwear and the Common Riding. It is a family run, dog friendly hotel in approximately ten acres of grounds, and every one of its 16 bedrooms is pet friendly.

Bring one dog or two; that is the per-room maximum. Most bedrooms are on the first floor and some on the lower level, mixing traditional features in the old house with modern additions in the new wing, and the Tower room looks out over the grounds and Hawick. Rooms come with a coffee machine alongside the tea tray, complimentary mineral water and biscuits, and the Superior rooms add their own seating area. On a dog staying alone in the bedroom while you dine, the hotel doesn't say anything, so mention it on the phone.

Scotland meets Italy in the Amarone Thistle Restaurant, where the menu is updated regularly without letting traditional favourites disappear for long, and as much food as possible is sourced locally. You can eat in the informal surroundings of the hotel bar or in the traditionally decorated dining room overlooking Hawick, and the bar is well stocked with over 20 malt whiskies, spirits, ales and lagers. Where a dog may sit during dinner at the Amarone Thistle, the hotel doesn't say; ask at the time of booking.

Those ten acres of grounds are open to you and your dog together, by the hotel's own invitation, so a morning stroll can stay within them. Many of the rooms have been recently refurbished, and afterwards the cosy bar is waiting for an evening coffee or a drink.

Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
