1 / 8Marine & Lawn Dornoch
Dornoch, Highland
Yes. Dogs can stay overnight.
A Highland hotel built for the railway in 1904, a short walk from Royal Dornoch, where dogs are welcome in the lobby and Bar Ross.
Marine & Lawn Dornoch began life as the Highland Railway's first purpose-built resort hotel, put up in 1904 to bring travellers north, and it still stands a short walk from Royal Dornoch, looking out to the Dornoch Firth. Dogs do well out of a dog friendly hotel on the wild Sutherland coast.
Dogs are a welcome part of the family here, as long as they are registered when you reserve and a pet agreement is signed on arrival. A lead is required through the grounds, the corridors and the public areas, and the hotel furniture is off limits. Housekeeping can only get into a room when the dog is out of it, so servicing is arranged with reception, and if a dog is left alone in the room, reception wants a contact number. Which rooms dogs take the hotel doesn't say.
Dogs are welcome in the lobby and in Bar Ross, the social heart of the hotel, made for good whisky and classic cocktails. The Golden Gorse draws on local meats, freshly caught seafood and the Sutherland larder.
Royal Dornoch is at the doorstep and the great links of the Highlands beyond it, with records of golf here from 1616. For a longer absence the team can point you at local dog sitting. Wildpack's nearest dog friendly beach, Dornoch Beach, is 0.2 miles from the hotel, and its page carries the dog rules.
Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
