Pen-y-Dyffryn Country Hotel

Oswestry, Shropshire

Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms.

A country house hotel on the last hill in Shropshire near Oswestry, with a Dog Wash Area, a Pets Welcome pack and a 100 acre woodland next door.

Pen-y-Dyffryn means Head of the Valley in Welsh, and the hotel sits on the last hill in Shropshire, where the border is the stream at the bottom of its gardens. The same family has run it for two generations, and it has been a dog friendly hotel for over twenty years, well away from roads and traffic in five acres of its own grounds.

The Valley Rooms and the Coach House bedrooms both welcome dogs, and the grounds are safe from passing traffic. The Coach House rooms are cottage style, reached by the garden steps, and each has a private stone-walled patio where you can sit out with your dog and a cup of tea. A Pets Welcome pack waits in the bedroom with towels, bowls, biscuits and treats, and the Dog Wash Area has a warm water hose, Wildwash shampoos and brushes. Dogs aren't allowed on the beds or furniture, and the hotel suggests bringing your dog's own bed and some towels.

Dogs can join you in the public rooms until 6pm but never in the restaurant, Seasons. During dinner you may leave yours unattended in the bedroom if you are confident of its behaviour. Seasons has huge south-facing sash windows and two AA Rosettes, and most of the menu changes every day, with four dishes at each course, canapés and a surprise appetiser.

The Good Hotel Guide named Pen-y-Dyffryn its Country Hotel of the Year, and spa treatments come to your room, therapist and massage table included. Out of the door there is a great deal of good walking, with a 100 acre woodland next door and walking leaflets from the hotel to guide you and the dog, and Wildpack's walk at Oswestry Old Racecourse Common is 1.0 miles from the hotel.

Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
