The Barn Owl Inn

Newton Abbot, Devon

Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms.

A 300-year-old former farmhouse inn on the edge of Kingskerswell, near Newton Abbot, where dogs are welcome throughout the pub.

Once a farmhouse, and 300 years old, The Barn Owl Inn sits on the edge of the village of Kingskerswell, full of quirky, rustic charm: stone floors, wooden beams and characterful artefacts. This dog friendly inn has seven en-suite bedrooms and puts Dartmoor National Park and the English Riviera towns of Torquay, Brixham and Paignton within reach.

Every corner of the inn is open to dogs, including some of the guest bedrooms. The seven rooms are all on the first floor and recently refurbished, with comfortable beds, crisp white linen and walk-in showers. Call ahead to check which bedrooms are dog friendly, how many dogs can come and whether they can stay alone, since the inn doesn't say.

With dogs welcome throughout, yours can settle beside you in one of the cosy dining areas, or by your chair in the soft seating area over a drink. The menu showcases traditional pub dishes made with locally sourced ingredients where possible, and the bar pours Dorset ales, among them Badger Beer, with an extensive gin collection and a hand selected wine list. Behind the pub is a secluded garden.

Dartmoor National Park is nearby for a big day out with your dog, and the coast is near too: for sand, Watcombe Beach tops Wildpack's list of nearby dog friendly beaches at 2.9 miles.
