The Cockhaven Arms

Bishopsteignton, Devon

Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.

A village inn in Bishopsteignton overlooking the Teign Estuary, where dogs on leads are welcome in the bar and the pub garden.

The Cockhaven Arms sits in the quiet village of Bishopsteignton, at the foot of Haldon Moor and overlooking the Teign Estuary, a couple of miles inland from Teignmouth. It is a dog friendly inn that answers the question it asks of its guests: where to eat with friends and family without leaving the dog at home. Downstairs keeps much of its traditional character, opened up into a bar and restaurant with wood burners.

Selected rooms among the 14 take dogs, up to two in each, so call the inn first and it will make sure you're given a dog friendly room. Dogs are kept on leads at all times and mustn't be left by themselves in the room. The rooms have powerful showers, and three of the newer ones have a balcony looking out over the Teign Estuary. Breakfast comes with your room, cooked or lighter.

When you book a table, mention the dog too, and you can eat together in the bar or out in the pub garden. The menu runs from traditional pub classics to more contemporary dishes, with a daily specials board for sharing dishes and rarer treats, and the Sunday roasts are popular enough to book ahead. Otter Ale and Otter Best come from the local Otter Brewery, and Wednesday is pie night.

Outside, the large beer garden has views of the estuary. The pub has four circular walks of its own, Haldon Moor and Shaldon among them, with a walking leaflet to download before you and your dog set off. The nearest beach on Wildpack's dog friendly list is Teignmouth Back Beach, 2.1 miles from the pub.
