Langstone Rock Beach

Devon

Dog Friendly Rating:5/10A quieter stretch of beach at the northern end of Dawlish near Langstone Rock, offering year-round dog access on the tidal section and sitting between the town of Dawlish and Dawlish Warren.

Langstone Rock Beach is the stretch of coast immediately north of Dawlish town, sitting between the end of the main Dawlish beach and the southern entrance to Dawlish Warren. The beach takes its name from the prominent red sandstone stack of Langstone Rock, a local landmark on this part of the Devon coast. The section known locally as Red Rock Beach sits on the tidal foreshore here and is exposed and walkable at lower tide states, offering a direct connection between the town of Dawlish and the nature reserve and beach at Dawlish Warren for those who time their visit around the tide. The cliffs in this area are unstable in places and the beach below them should be given a wide berth in wet or stormy conditions.

Dog access at this section follows the Teignbridge rules that govern the wider Dawlish beach: a 230-metre stretch immediately south of Langstone Rock towards Dawlish is restricted from 1 April to 30 September, and a further section near the Dawlish Warren side is also subject to seasonal rules. The tidal beach section to the right of the Dawlish Warren lifeguard tower is year-round dog friendly. For dog owners arriving from Dawlish, this beach is best treated as a connecting route between the town and Warren rather than a destination in its own right, with the tidal window and cliffs both requiring attention before setting out.
