Dainton, Devon

Book now

On a smallholding at Dainton, outside Newton Abbot, the owners have built a pair of log cabins, and Pod 2 is one of them. It is a dog friendly cabin for two with two dogs welcome, and everything outside the door is fully enclosed, so the dogs have their own secure patch of Devon from the moment you arrive.

French doors open into one living space with a kitchen, a dining table and a sofa, and the bedroom beyond has a king size bed and its own walk-in shower. It is all on the ground floor, with no stairs for a dog to negotiate. A portable dog wash and dog towels are provided, along with a welcome pack and some extras for the dogs.

The front garden is where the time goes. There is a small deck and a patio with a picnic bench, a barbecue and two reclining garden chairs, all facing across fields where the smallholding keeps its animals, so the dogs will have plenty to watch. The owners ask that dogs are with you in the cabin and the garden at all times, and they are happy to show guests round the holding when they can.

This is a quiet corner of south Devon between the moor and the sea. Berry Pomeroy Castle, a Tudor ruin in a wooded valley, is a few miles off, and the Dartington estate and the river Dart at Totnes are close by. The red cliffs and coves at Watcombe and Oddicombe on the Torbay coast are a short drive for a morning by the sea with the dogs, and Dartmoor rises to the west.

  • What should I know before visiting The Smithy - Glamping Pod 2 with my dog?

The owners ask that dogs are with you in the cabin and garden at all times, so this is a place for dogs who are happy to be close to their people rather than left alone.
