Lemon Cottage

Bickington, Devon

A three bedroom cottage at Bickington on the edge of Dartmoor, with an enclosed lawned garden, a private hot tub, two wood burners, a wet room by the door and two dogs welcome.

Book now

Just inside the front door of Lemon Cottage there are dog beds, a place for coats and boots, and a wet room for rinsing a dog down before it goes any further. That is the order the owners have thought about things in, and it runs through the whole of this dog friendly cottage at Bickington, on the eastern edge of Dartmoor, where two dogs are welcome.

Downstairs is open plan, a kitchen with a breakfast bar looking over the living and dining area, with a wood burner at each end of it and logs for the first fires. French doors open from there onto the back garden, which is enclosed and mostly lawn, with a small patio partly under cover and a private hot tub for six. Two dogs can be let straight out of the living room and left to it.

The bedrooms are up two flights. The king size room is on the first floor beside the main bathroom, and the second double and a small room with a three quarter bed and a single are on the floor above. Stairgates come with the house, which settles the question of who sleeps where for most dogs. The evening belongs downstairs: dogs by one burner, people at the table by the other, and the tub for last.

Bickington sits on the River Lemon, a few miles west of Newton Abbot. Ashburton is a five minute drive, a stannary town full of antique shops and a good bakery, and the open moor begins a little further on. Haytor Rocks stand on the skyline there, with miles of granite and heather round them for a dog to cross.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Lemon Cottage dog friendly?

Lemon Cottage is genuinely designed with dogs in mind from the moment you arrive. Right inside the front door you'll find dog beds, space for coats and boots, and a wet room for rinsing off muddy paws — so the whole cottage stays comfortable for everyone. Up to two dogs are welcome, and the enclosed lawned garden means they can be let straight out from the living room.

  • Are dogs allowed at Lemon Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and with Dartmoor on the doorstep there's plenty to keep you and your dogs happy whatever the time of year. That said, it's always worth confirming directly with the owners when you book, just to be sure.

  • What should I know before visiting Lemon Cottage with my dog?

The cottage takes a maximum of two dogs, so it's worth bearing that in mind when planning your trip. Stairgates are provided, which helpfully settles the question of where the dogs sleep at night — and the wet room by the front door means muddy post-walk arrivals are well catered for. The enclosed garden is mostly lawn, giving dogs a safe space to roam freely without you having to think twice.
