The Coach & Horses

Clitheroe, Lancashire

Yes. Dogs can stay in 2 dog friendly rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.

A restored coaching inn in the Ribble Valley, on the edge of the Forest of Bowland, with a cosy bar where dogs, walkers and cyclists are always welcome.

Seven individually stylish bedrooms, two AA rosettes and a cosy bar where dogs, walkers and cyclists are always welcome: the Coach and Horses has been restored in a style befitting a traditional coaching inn, in the heart of the Ribble Valley. This dog friendly inn has a three-mile circular walk right on its doorstep, and the team will hand you a copy of the map.

Two of the rooms, Henry and Swallow, take dogs, with up to two dogs in either. Henry has a view over the village stocks and a cast iron bath for an evening of luxury, and Swallow, tucked into the roof of the pub, pairs a cosy double bedroom with a separate sitting room or extra twin bedroom and its own kitchenette. The inn doesn't say whether a dog may be left by itself in either room; check before heading out to dinner.

Dogs are always welcome in the cosy bar, but the inn doesn't say whether they can join you for a meal in the two AA rosette dining room, so ask when you book a table. The kitchen's two AA rosette cooking runs from lunch and dinner to Sunday lunch, and Monday to Thursday there is a midweek package built around a relaxed six course tasting menu.

The inn sits on the edge of the Forest of Bowland, ideally placed for the Ribble Valley, Gisburn Forest and Pendle Hill, and you're welcome to pop in for a well-earned drink when you come back. Take the dog further and Pendle Hill from Downham Village lies 3.3 miles off, with Gisburn Forest Dog Friendly Trails at 4.8 miles.
