The Coniston Hotel Country Estate & Spa

Gargrave, North Yorkshire

Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms.

A 1,000-acre country estate hotel at Coniston Cold, Skipton, where dogs join you on the terrace, in The View and in Macleod's Bar & Lounge.

Rolling hills surround The Coniston, a 1,000-acre countryside estate on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, with a lake of its own. Family owned, with more than 50 years of hospitality behind it, it is now a 70-bedroom hotel with a spa, and at this dog friendly hotel you can walk the estate and around the lake with your dog, on a lead because of the livestock.

Dogs stay in a number of dog friendly rooms, so contact the hotel before booking to make sure one is free, and each dog arrives to a welcome pack with a mat, bowl, toy and treats. The rules are clear: dogs are never left alone in your room or suite at any time, they stay on a lead in public areas and off beds and furniture, and staff can't feed or walk them for you. Pet food isn't sold at the hotel, so pack your dog's own. XL Bully owners need to show the dog is neutered, microchipped, registered and insured, and keep it muzzled and on a lead in public areas, and the hotel may refuse entry to a dog that doesn't meet these conditions.

The View, the main restaurant, welcomes well behaved dogs, as do Macleod's Bar & Lounge and the terrace, so you can eat together with the estate's panoramas in front of you. Macleod's serves laid-back favourites and drinks after a day outdoors, and Blossom Kitchen looks after spa dining.

The Nàdarra Spa, for over-18s, has a 15m indoor pool, two outdoor infinity pools, Finnish, Himalayan and infrared saunas and an ice fountain, and some rooms overlook the lake. If the dog is after a longer outing, Wildpack's Gordale Scar and Malham Cove Extended Circular is 4.7 miles away.

Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
