1 / 8The Fleece at Ruleholme
Carlisle, Cumberland
Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms.
A luxury Lakeland inn at Irthington near Carlisle, where dogs join their families in the Lounge and Bar and get a pet bed and towels in their room.
Oak beam detailing, farmhouse-style doors and Lakeland stone feature walls fill the rooms at The Fleece at Ruleholme, a luxury Lakeland inn at Irthington, near Carlisle, with views of the rolling countryside. Well-behaved dogs are warmly welcome at this dog friendly inn, and they can join their families in the lounge or the bar.
Dogs stay in the Classic rooms, which have a king-sized bed, an Illy coffee machine and Rituals toiletries, and a pet bed and dog towels are provided so the bedroom furnishings and bathroom linens stay dog free. Ground floor rooms can be fitted out with everything a pet might need and have direct outdoor access; the inn doesn't say whether any Classic rooms are on the ground floor, so ask when you book. Your dog must not be left unaccompanied in the bedroom unless it is in a locked dog crate, and dogs stay on a lead outside the bedrooms. The inn doesn't mention a maximum number of dogs, so check that too.
Your dog can sit with you in the Lounge or Bar area, where the inn asks you to keep other diners in mind; dogs aren't permitted in any of the other dining areas. Beyond the lounge and bar, the sky-lit atrium serves afternoon teas and light snacks in natural light, and the Oak Room restaurant offers refined twists on classic dishes.
The suites have a freestanding copper bath, a custom-crafted four-poster oak bed frame and dual aspect views, though dogs can only stay in the Classic rooms. For a longer outing with your dog, Talkin Tarn Country Park is 2.9 miles away on Wildpack's map.
