Built in 1903 and just through a major refurbishment, The Friendship Hotel is a family-run hotel with a thriving pub in the centre of Stocksbridge, on the edge of the Peak District and within easy reach of Barnsley and Sheffield. Come for walking, cycling or simply a break with the dog, and this dog friendly hotel assures you of a warm welcome.
Dogs stay in certain bedrooms only, no more than two per room, and one rule is firm: dogs can't be left unattended anywhere in the hotel at any time, the bedrooms included. Nine rooms, eight doubles and a single, have been refurbished and are en-suite, with comfy beds, a desk and chair, a Smart TV and tea and coffee, and the doubles can be made up as twins on request. A drying room and secure bicycle storage help after a long day out.
The Friendship is also a thriving local pub, with a good selection of beers, cask ales and spirits, with Sky Sports and regular live music, and both main lounges have open fires to wind down by after exploring. On meals or a pint with your dog alongside, the hotel doesn't say, so make it a question for the booking. Breakfast isn't served at the moment, though a number of cafes are within walking distance, and the Fox Valley shopping centre, also within walking distance, has a great range of restaurants and bars.
Stocksbridge has become a popular area for road cyclists, with the Tour de Yorkshire finish once passing the front door, and Wharncliffe Woods is within pedalling distance for mountain bikers. With the dog, head for Wortley and Wharncliffe Crags Circular, 2.4 miles off, or Langsett Reservoir and Hingcliff Common Circular, 3.9 miles away, both on Wildpack.
