The Queens Hotel

Portsmouth

Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms.

A Grade 2 listed Edwardian hotel on the edge of Southsea Common, where dogs are welcome in Dukes Bar, the lounge and the garden.

The Queens Hotel began life in 1861 as Southsea House, a large private house, and today this Grade 2 listed Edwardian building is a four star hotel on the edge of Southsea Common, just a few minutes' walk from the beach. This dog friendly hotel gives dogs more of the house than the bedroom, with Dukes Bar, the lounge and the garden all open to them.

Dogs stay in certain bedrooms only, and those are subject to availability, so flag your dog at the booking stage. Before booking, ask the reservations team two things the hotel doesn't say: the number of dogs a bedroom can take, and whether one may stay there alone.

Dukes Bar welcomes dogs, serving food and drink all day with views of the comings and goings on the Solent. Dogs aren't allowed in Restaurant 1865, the hotel's breakfast restaurant, and it doesn't say which other spot suits breakfast with your dog, so ask reception. Afternoon tea is made daily by the pastry team from local ingredients.

The lounge and the private garden are open to dogs as well, and the Spinnaker Tower can be seen from the bar and the garden. The newly refurbished Superior Double Sea View rooms look out across the Solent, and some of the Superior Large Double Sea View rooms have a private or shared balcony. Southsea Castle is a 10-minute walk away, and for the seafront, Southsea Beach is Wildpack's nearest dog friendly pick, 1.0 miles away.

Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
