The White Hart Inn sits at the heart of West Mersea village opposite the church, parts of the building dating from the fifteenth century, with six guest rooms. Three of them take dogs, and the geography is what makes this a dog friendly inn: the steps to Monkey Beach are 250 yards from the front door, and the shoreline runs east, west or right round the island.
Dogs stay in Strood, Cocum Hills and Little Ditch, and the number of dogs depends on their size, so check the limit when you book. Bring your dog's own bedding, because the inn asks that they keep off its bedding and furniture. Strood looks onto the church and the green, Little Ditch has window seats facing the sea, and Cocum Hills faces west for the sunsets.
