1 / 8The Woodborough Inn
Winscombe, North Somerset
Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.
A Winscombe village inn at the foot of the Mendip Hills, with a treat box in the room for dogs and a bar and garden that welcome them.
Seven guest rooms, all named after local cider apples, make up the stay at The Woodborough Inn, at the centre of Winscombe, with the Mendip Hills all around. This dog friendly inn runs on a warm welcome, great food and a cracking pub atmosphere, and the whole idea is that you can eat out with friends and family without leaving your dog at home.
Selected rooms take dogs, two at most per bedroom, and a dog treat box is waiting in the room for every dog staying overnight. Mention your dog when you book, whether it's a room or a table. Dogs can't be left unattended in the rooms, and in the public areas they stay on a lead. The rooms have luxury bathrooms, breakfast is available daily with a choice of cooked or continental, and two larger suites suit families.
Your dog can join you on a lead in the bar area and the pub garden, and food is now served all day. The menu runs from traditional pub classics to more contemporary dishes, with hearty specials, pizza and lighter plates, all cooked fresh from locally sourced ingredients, and the Sunday roasts are not to be missed. Local real ales are always on tap beside local ciders and a gin list that heads up the spirits.
The walking begins at the door, where the inn has five circular walks of its own, and the Strawberry Line is only 100 yards away. For a hill with your dog, Crook Peak, one of Wildpack's walks, is 2.2 miles off. Cheddar Gorge, the cathedral city of Wells and Glastonbury Tor are all within reach for a day out.
