1 / 20Altair
Holywell, Flintshire
A cabin for a family of four in its own private field near Holywell, with a sunken outdoor bath under the open sky among the Clwydian hills. Dogs are welcome to join the family.
Altair stands in its own private field in the peaceful countryside outside Holywell, a dog friendly cabin made for a family: a king size double for the grown ups, bunk beds for two little ones, and room for the dog by the wood burner. All around are the rolling hills of the Clwydian Range, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The field is not enclosed and is open at the entrance, so keep the dog on a lead or a long line around the cabin. There is no livestock in the surrounding field. From the parking it is a short walk up a gentle slope into the field, and Shacks ask you to keep the gates closed.
Inside there are books and board games, a hot shower, an eco composting loo and a hob and fridge for cooking, all run on renewable electricity. Step outside to the sunken outdoor bath and soak under the open sky. Back indoors, the wood burner keeps the cabin warm long after the dog has fallen asleep in front of it.
Moel Famau, the highest point of the Clwydian Range, is close by, with paths as gentle or as challenging as you like, and Loggerheads Country Park has a riverside walk and a café. The Crown Inn welcomes dogs and is a 25 minute walk away, Mold's market fills the high street on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and Talacre Beach, half an hour's drive, welcomes dogs on its sands and dunes.

Book with ShacksFrequently Asked Questions
Is Altair dog friendly?
Yes, dogs are very welcome at Altair. The cabin has its own private field with no livestock grazing in it, which makes it genuinely relaxed for dogs rather than just technically permitted.
Are dogs allowed at Altair year round?
The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, and nothing in the description suggests otherwise. If you want to confirm availability for a specific time of year, it's worth checking directly with Shacks when you book.
What should I know before visiting Altair with my dog?
The field has no livestock, which is a real bonus and fairly unusual for a Shacks property, but the entrance isn't fully fenced so the gateway is worth keeping an eye on. A long line pegged near the cabin is a practical way to let your dog roam freely with the kids without anyone having to stand guard at the gap. The walk up from the car park is around 200 metres on a gentle slope, so bear that in mind when you're unloading.
