Three dogs this far north will want the coast, and it delivers. Sandy beaches lie all along it, Sango Bay among them, and Sandwood Bay, said to be the most magnificent beach in the UK, has no road access at all but can be reached along a 4 mile trail, a pilgrimage that fit dogs and their people talk about afterwards.
Kinlochbervie, the fishing village, is 3 miles away, Durness has Smoo Cave and Europe's most northerly zip line, and Handa Island's bird sanctuary makes a fine trip. Ben Stack, Arkle and Foinaven stand within easy reach for the hill days, and a dog that has done one of those will be glad of the wood burner.
