Anoushka's Cottage is tucked away near the tranquil River Caerfanell in Talybont-on-Usk, a beautifully presented rustic cottage that welcomes couples, families and one dog. The canal towpath is there for peaceful strolls, the peaks of the Brecon Beacons for bigger days, and the village has welcoming pubs to come back to, which makes it a dog friendly bolthole for every kind of walker.

The open plan living space starts with a well equipped galley kitchen and opens into a cosy sitting area with wooden floors, a dining table and a bay window looking out over the garden. When evening comes, light the wood burner and settle in with the Smart TV, the books or the board games, while the dog dozes by the fire. On the first floor the double bedroom has views over the garden, the river and Allt Mountain, and the single looks towards the canal, with the bathroom downstairs.

Outside, the enclosed garden is a private retreat, with a terrace, an outdoor dining area, a BBQ and a lush lawn for the dog to enjoy, and flowerbeds add a splash of colour. It is the place for a quiet morning coffee before the first walk, or supper outside as the day winds down.

The Taff Trail runs through the village and on all the way to Cardiff, the waterfalls at Blaen-y-Glyn are close, and Talybont Reservoir is a haven for migratory birds. Pen y Fan is 14 miles away and Fan y Big 9 miles, both grand days out for a fit dog, and Brecon has restaurants, independent shops, a cinema and a theatre.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Anoushka's Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, one dog is welcome at Anoushka's Cottage. The owners have leaned into it properly — the enclosed garden lawn is described as being for the dog, and the bay window seats are positioned just right for watching the garden from inside.

  • Are dogs allowed at Anoushka's Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so there's nothing to suggest they're limited to certain times of year. It's worth confirming directly with the owners when you book, just to be sure.

  • What should I know before visiting Anoushka's Cottage with my dog?

The stairs to the bedrooms are steep, traditional and have no handrail — the description notes that one dog handles them better than most people do, but it's worth knowing before you arrive. Outside, the garden is enclosed with a terrace and lawn, and the walking from the village is excellent: the Taff Trail runs through and is level enough for a long, easy walk, with the River Caerfanell, a reservoir and the falls at Blaen-y-Glyn all close by.
