By The River is a lovely stone cottage beside a stream in Llwyngwril, and from its attractive enclosed garden you can hear the water babbling past. It is a cosy, dog friendly place that sleeps four and takes a pair of dogs, with footpaths and a rocky beach within walking distance of the door.

Boots and sandals have plenty of space as you come in at the back door. The sunshine kitchen looks out over the garden while supper is made, and the dining room has a bespoke settle, table and bench with room for everyone to gather. Through in the lounge there are comfortable sofas, a Smart TV and of course the wood burner, logs and smokeless coal included, and that is where the dogs curl up for the evening.

Two lovely bedrooms, one double and one twin, are designed for a good night's sleep, and a leisurely bath rounds off a long day. With its table, chairs and charcoal BBQ, the pretty garden suits a morning coffee or a sundowner to the sound of the stream while the dogs potter about. Bikes go in a lockable shed, with space in the garden for paddleboards and canoes.

Footpaths lead out from the doorstep with the dogs, there is a sandy beach for a gentle stroll and the coastal path to roam, and Cader Idris waits to be climbed in Snowdonia National Park. The Mawddach and Dyfi estuaries are close for their wildlife and waters, the Talyllyn historic steam railway and Corris Slate Mines make good days out, and a water taxi crosses from Fairbourne to Barmouth.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is By The River dog friendly?

Yes, By The River welcomes up to two dogs. The cottage has a walled garden at the back where dogs can settle while you load and unload gear, and there's a shower over the bath for rinsing off after a day at the sea.

  • Are dogs allowed at By The River year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the setup — enclosed garden, practical boot room entry, and nearby walks straight from the village — suits a dog visit in any season.

  • What should I know before visiting By The River with my dog?

You enter via a side gate and come round to the back, where a boot room makes a sensible first stop after muddy walks — the footpaths start right at the road. The walled garden gives dogs a secure space to roam, and the path south along the cliffs to the old church at Llangelynin is a good long outing that can be done as a loop. Up to two dogs are welcome.
