Capel Coffa is a luxury converted chapel at Llanelltyd, full of original features, with an enclosed garden, fabulous views and a newly installed hot tub. Eight people and three dogs can stay in this dog friendly chapel, and the walk into Dolgellau or out along the Mawddach Trail starts from the door.

The original doors open into an inner porch, with a pew and lots of space for coats and boots after a walk with the dogs. Beyond it the lounge, kitchen and diner share one space beneath a double height ceiling, with exposed beams, feature windows and lighting that picks out the details of the building. Home cooked meals come from a well equipped kitchen to the dining table, and after a full day out the pouffe takes your feet while the wood burner, its opening basket of logs supplied, soon has three dogs stretched out before it. Younger guests have the mezzanine for games.

On the ground floor a king size room comes en suite, near the utility and a separate WC. Three more bedrooms fill the upper floor, a second en suite king among them, all with streaming TVs, and a stylish family bathroom with a freestanding bath. In the enclosed garden are a paved patio, a lawn, seating, a charcoal BBQ and that hot tub, and the dogs nose about the lawn while a sundowner is poured.

Dolgellau is 1 mile away, with pubs, shops and cycle hire for the Mawddach Trail, which the dogs can walk too. The Coed-y-Brenin Forest Park is a short drive away, Barmouth has golden sandy beaches and a harbour, and Harlech, with its castle, is further up the coast.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Capel Coffa dog friendly?

Yes, Capel Coffa is a five star dog-friendly stay that welcomes up to three dogs per booking. The enclosed garden — a mix of paved patio and lawn — gives dogs a safe space to stretch their legs, and an inner porch with a pew makes a handy spot for sorting coats, leads and muddy paws on the way in.

  • Are dogs allowed at Capel Coffa year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your travel dates. Given that up to three dogs are included as standard in every booking, this is clearly a place that's set up for dog owners as a matter of course.

  • What should I know before visiting Capel Coffa with my dog?

There are steps up to the front door, so it's worth bearing that in mind if your dog isn't keen on stairs — though the ground floor bedroom with its own shower room is a practical option for anyone travelling with an older or less mobile dog. Nearby, the Precipice Walk is a circular hillside route with an estuary view, though the listing does note it's a walk to do with dogs on the lead, with sheep on the other side of the wall.
