Fort Augustus is where the Caledonian Canal staircases down into Loch Ness, and Cawdor Cottage sits in the village with the Great Glen Way passing a few doors away. A characterful cottage for four with one dog welcome, it is a dog friendly base at the exact centre of the Highlands: fifty Munros stand within an hour of the door, which is not a figure many cottages can print.
There are two sitting rooms, one with the multi fuel stove and the dining table, one with a second TV for whoever loses the vote, plus a modern kitchen, a shower room down and a bathroom up. The staircase is steep and narrow in the proper cottage manner, with a double and a twin at the top of it. The dog will prefer the front garden anyway: a vast fenced enclosure wrapped in trees.
