Loch Lomond is across the field from Clarinnes Cottage, with the mountains and forest rising on the far side. This detached dog friendly house at Rowardennan, on the quiet east shore, sleeps six and takes two dogs, and it was extended and refitted in 2021, with the West Highland Way close to the door.

A lawn with a fence round it makes up the garden, set with seating and a barbecue, and there is decking beside it with a private hot tub for six. It is the spot for breakfast outside, and for watching the wild birds that come in, and now and then a red squirrel, which two dogs will want to discuss at length. At night the hot tub is the place for the stars.

Downstairs is one open plan space with a wood burner, plenty of seating and a dining table, and patio doors out to the decking. The main bedroom is on the ground floor as well, with its own shower room with a grab rail and doors onto the decking, which suits anyone less steady on their feet, or with an older dog. Upstairs, two more bedrooms both look down to the loch, with the family bathroom downstairs. The dogs are provided for in the welcome pack, and a stair gate is available on request.

Tracks and footpaths lead off from the front door. The West Highland Way follows the shore here, Ben Lomond climbs straight up from Rowardennan for a big day with a fit dog, and Conic Hill above Balmaha is a shorter climb with a view out over the islands of the loch. Glasgow is under an hour away.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Clarinnes Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Clarinnes Cottage welcomes up to two dogs. The garden is enclosed with a fence, so your dogs can enjoy the outdoor space safely, and a welcome pack is provided for them on arrival.

  • Are dogs allowed at Clarinnes Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. With a wood burner inside and a hot tub on the decking, it's a good base for a dog-friendly stay whatever the season.

  • What should I know before visiting Clarinnes Cottage with my dog?

The cottage takes a maximum of two dogs, and a stair gate is available on request if you need to keep them off the stairs. The main bedroom is on the ground floor with its own access to the decking, which works well for older or less mobile dogs. Tracks and footpaths lead straight from the front door, including the West Highland Way along the shore, so there's no shortage of walking from the moment you arrive.
