1 / 23Crinkle Cottage
Whitstable, Kent
A three bedroom cottage for four in Whitstable with an enclosed garden, two fires, a ground floor bathroom and two dogs welcome, the beach at the end of the road.
Two fires in a cottage of this size is a surprise: a gas one in the lounge, and a wood burner at the back of the house beside the dining table. Crinkle Cottage is dog friendly, sleeps four in Whitstable across three bedrooms, keeps an enclosed garden with a decked seat and takes two dogs, so between the fires neither animal has to share.
The stairs are the thing to know. A steep cottage flight climbs to the two doubles and a narrower one to the room in the roof, and the owners say plainly it is not a house for anybody unsteady on their feet. It need not be a dog's problem: bathroom, kitchen, both fires and the garden door are all on the ground floor, and any dog that has finished with staircases need never revisit the decision.
The front door opens straight into the room everybody lives in, and with the shore a few minutes away the sand comes back into that room on four sets of feet. That is the arrangement's virtue: everything wet is dealt with in one place, the garden lies through the back with furniture on it, and by evening two dogs have divided the ground floor between one fire and the other.
The beach runs round the bay from the town to Tankerton, where the slope above carries two rows of huts and the shingle shelves gently into the water. Off Tankerton a shingle spit called The Street runs half a mile out to sea and surfaces for a few hours around low water, so a dog can be walked into the middle of the estuary and back before the tide returns. It is the strangest walk on this coast.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is Crinkle Cottage dog friendly?
Yes, Crinkle Cottage welcomes up to two dogs. The cottage has an enclosed garden with a decked seat, and the beach is just a few minutes away on foot.
Are dogs allowed at Crinkle Cottage year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's best to confirm directly with the owners when booking. What we can say is that the setup — two fires, a ground floor bathroom, and an enclosed garden — lends itself well to a dog-friendly stay at any time of year.
What should I know before visiting Crinkle Cottage with my dog?
The good news is that everything a dog needs is on the ground floor: the bathroom, kitchen, both fires, and the door to the enclosed garden. The cottage has steep stairs, including a narrow flight to the top room, but dogs that prefer to stay on the ground floor won't need to tackle them at all.
