Whitechapel is a small place in the Bowland foothills, gathered round the Cross Keys Inn on the southern edge of the Forest of Bowland. Four Dorchester Drive is one of the cottages built round the inn, a dog friendly base for four walkers and two dogs, with an enclosed garden of its own and the fells rising to the north.

Everything is on the ground floor, up one step from outside. The open plan room covers living, dining and kitchen, the two double bedrooms lead off it, and French doors take the dogs from the sofa to the garden in one move. That garden is enclosed and has furniture on it, which makes it the place for boots to dry, dogs to stretch out and the first cup of tea to be drunk. The owners leave doggy extras too.

It works on its own for four, and it also works as part of something bigger. The Dorchester Drive cottages can be booked together for up to 22 guests, so a large family or a walking club can take the lot, bring every dog allowed and still have somewhere to retreat to. The inn at the centre of it all welcomes dogs as well as children.

North of the village the land climbs into Bowland proper. The Trough of Bowland road runs through the heart of it, with moorland walking and river valleys on either side, and the Nicky Nook ridge above Scorton is a short dog walk with a long view. For something gentler, the River Wyre runs through Garstang to the west, with flat paths along the bank for dogs of any age.

We research every description carefully and believe it to be accurate, but details can change. Please confirm anything important, especially dog rules, with the booking agent or property owner before you book.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Cross Keys Inn Cottages - Four Dorchester Drive dog friendly?

Yes, Four Dorchester Drive is a genuinely dog-friendly base — up to two dogs are welcome, and the cottage has an enclosed garden with outdoor furniture where they can stretch out after a walk. The Cross Keys Inn at the heart of the site welcomes dogs too, so you're not limited to the cottage itself.

  • Are dogs allowed at Cross Keys Inn Cottages - Four Dorchester Drive year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, so it's worth contacting the owners directly to confirm availability for your dates. Given that it's set up as a walking base on the edge of the Forest of Bowland, it's well suited to visits in any season.

  • What should I know before visiting Cross Keys Inn Cottages - Four Dorchester Drive with my dog?

The cottage is single storey with just one step up from outside, so it's easy going for dogs of most ages and sizes. The owners leave doggy extras, and French doors open straight from the living space into the enclosed garden, which makes coming and going with muddy paws pretty straightforward. If you're part of a larger group, the Dorchester Drive cottages can be booked together for up to 22 guests, with a maximum of two dogs per cottage.
