Book now

Dan Yr Heol Cottage is a traditional Welsh cottage in the Usk Valley, surrounded by greenery and mountain views, and its interiors are comfortable and dog friendly, with plenty of space for six guests and two dogs. Walkers have easy access onto the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal towpath, with Monmouthshire countryside and the Black Mountains all around.

Guests are encouraged to use the rear door, which leads into a useful utility space for muddy boots, the natural way in with the dogs after a busy day in the countryside. From there the charming, well equipped kitchen opens into a generously sized dining room, where everyone pulls up to the large table for a hearty meal, and in summer the original front door can be opened to the gardens. The spacious lounge has peaceful garden views and comfortable seating, and that is the room the dogs choose once evening comes.

Gardens and countryside views surround the cottage, and the garden is enclosed, with a seating area for al fresco dining and storage for bikes. The dogs explore while supper is served outside. Upstairs are three bedrooms: the master double, which comes with a dressing room and its own large shower; a very spacious triple pairing a super king size with a single; and a cosy single. The family bathroom has a large free standing bath.

Abergavenny is 3 miles away, and the Skirrid, Sugar Loaf and Blorenge are all within 10 miles, each with a panoramic view from the top for the dogs to earn. Walkers can join the Offa's Dyke footpath at Pandy to climb the Cat's Back, a wonderful ridge on Black Hill, and the market town of Crickhowell lies further west.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Dan Yr Heol Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Dan Yr Heol Cottage welcomes up to two dogs. The cottage has been thoughtfully set up with dogs in mind — there's a utility room at the back entrance specifically for muddy boots and wet dogs, and gardens on every side give them plenty of space to roam.

  • Are dogs allowed at Dan Yr Heol Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and the setup of the cottage — with its boot room, all-round gardens and secure electric gate — suggests it's designed to work well with dogs whatever the weather or time of year. For confirmation of specific dates and availability, it's worth checking directly with the property.

  • What should I know before visiting Dan Yr Heol Cottage with my dog?

The cottage has a few features that make life with dogs noticeably easier: the back door entry takes you through a utility room first, keeping mud contained before you reach the living spaces, and an electric gate across the drive keeps the property secure — something dogs apparently figure out quickly. The surrounding lanes are quiet enough for walking, and for something more ambitious, Offa's Dyke and the Cat's Back ridge at Black Hill are around 8 miles north, offering a full day's walk with a dog.
