Book now

Glaslyn enjoys a secluded spot on the edge of the pretty hamlet of Pennorth, with panoramic views of the Usk Valley and the Black Mountains, and footpaths leave from the door into the hills. Twelve people and two small dogs share this dog friendly house, architect-designed in the 1960s and still carrying the bright, celebratory spirit of that era.

The rooms are colourful and full of light. The large lounge gathers everyone around the wood burner effect fire, the kitchen has a Rangemaster double oven for cooking for the whole party, and the dining table sits by floor to ceiling windows. The sunny conservatory looks out over the Usk Valley without interruption, a fine place to sit with a dog at your feet when the day's walk is over.

There are six bedrooms, from king-size to bunks, over two floors with five bathrooms, three of them en suite. Outside is a magnificent enclosed garden with a sociable patio, picnic tables, a BBQ and a long sloping lawn, and the two dogs will be out on it before the bags are in. There are sheep and cattle in the adjoining fields, worth knowing with dogs along, and the stables beside the house mean a horse can come on holiday too.

The Allt, home to an Iron Age fortress, is a 2 mile hike from the house, and the dogs can be up in the hills of the Brecon Beacons National Park from the first morning. Pen y Fan, the Taff Trail and the waterfalls at Blaen-y-Glyn, past Talybont Reservoir, are all within reach, while Brecon, a market town 5 miles away, has its cathedral, canal side paths and independent shops.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Glaslyn dog friendly?

Yes, Glaslyn welcomes up to two dogs. The house has hard floors throughout for muddy paws to dry on, and the lane, hills and river valley are right on the doorstep — the walk starts where the car stops.

  • Are dogs allowed at Glaslyn year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. With footpaths leading straight into the hills from the hamlet, it's a great base whatever the season.

  • What should I know before visiting Glaslyn with my dog?

The house accommodates up to two dogs, so it's not suitable for larger groups travelling with more than that. It's also worth knowing that there are stables beside the house, so your dogs will be sharing the property with horses — something to bear in mind if yours aren't used to them.
