Hailey, Oxfordshire
A delightful country cottage for six in the village of Hailey near Witney, on the edge of the Cotswolds, with a wood burner and bread oven, an enclosed lawn and patio garden and one dog welcome.
Hailey Cottage is a delightful country cottage in the village of Hailey, towards the southern edge of the ancient Wychwood Forest and on the edge of the Cotswolds. Six guests and one dog are welcome, footpaths and cycleways lead out from the doorstep across open fields, and with its enclosed lawn and patio garden this dog friendly cottage is a pretty rural retreat.
The way in is through the garden gate and across the garden to the back door, which opens into the open-plan kitchen/diner, a home away from home for whoever is cooking, with seating for six around the table. Through in the lounge, a comfortable three-seater and two armchairs surround the wood burner and the bread oven, which bring warmth and character to the cottage, and the dog soon finds a place by the fire.
On the first floor are a double and the master bedroom, with a king-size bed, a built-in wardrobe and an en-suite shower room, plus the main bathroom. The second floor keeps its original features, low beams and sloping ceilings, around a further double. Outside, the enclosed lawn and patio garden has ample seating, so cocktails and supper can be taken outside as the light fades, the dog rolling on the lawn.
Witney is 2 miles away, with its shops, pubs, restaurants and weekly market, and a few miles further on is Bampton, the village that was the film set for Downton Abbey. The footpaths lead along open fields to Cotswold villages and historic coaching inns, so the dog has new ground every day, and Oxford, the City of Dreaming Spires, is 14 miles away.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is Hailey Cottage dog friendly?
Yes, Hailey Cottage welcomes dogs — though just the one. Behind the cottage is an enclosed garden with seating, which makes it a particularly good fit for a dog that needs a secure outdoor space to settle into.
Are dogs allowed at Hailey Cottage year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the enclosed garden and wood burner make it a comfortable base whatever the season.
What should I know before visiting Hailey Cottage with my dog?
Only one dog is permitted at Hailey Cottage, so it's not the right fit for multi-dog households. The staircase is steep and narrow with a rope in place of a banister, but if the description is anything to go by, most dogs figure it out by the second morning without much fuss. Nearby, there's a walk along the River Windrush between Witney and Minster Lovell — roughly three miles — with no significant roads to contend with.
