A conservatory sits at the heart of Harbord House, and from it the view runs out over a private lawn to the horse paddocks beyond. Six people and two dogs stay here, in a dog friendly house at Colton, a village in the Norfolk countryside west of Norwich, and the owners describe the garden as designed to be safe for children and dogs alike.

The garden is enclosed, with the lawn for the dogs and a patio for everyone else, set with furniture and a pellet barbecue. The hot tub is private and takes six, and it sits just outside the conservatory doors. The horse paddocks lie on the other side of the boundary, which some dogs will want to watch for an hour and some will ignore entirely.

Inside there is room for a group to be together or apart. A living room with deep sofas, a kitchen and breakfast room, a proper dining table, and on the ground floor a twin bedroom beside a bathroom, which means anyone avoiding the stairs can stay down there with an older dog. Upstairs are two king size bedrooms, one with an en suite and the other with an extra day bed. Two stair gates are supplied, and a welcome pack has extras for the dogs. The evenings here look after themselves: the tub, the conservatory and two dogs flat out on the conservatory floor.

Norwich, with its cathedral and castle, is a short drive away, and the Broads open up beyond Wroxham for river trips. The north Norfolk coast, with its salt marshes, long sandy beaches and coast path, makes a full day out with the dogs, and Blickling Hall and Mousehold Heath are closer.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Harbord House dog friendly?

Yes, Harbord House welcomes up to two dogs alongside your group. The enclosed garden has a lawn for the dogs to roam, and a welcome pack includes extras for your four-legged guests.

  • Are dogs allowed at Harbord House year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owners directly to confirm availability for your dates. As a dedicated dog-friendly property, it's set up with dogs in mind throughout.

  • What should I know before visiting Harbord House with my dog?

The garden is enclosed and described as safe for both dogs and children, with a lawn where dogs can stretch out. Two stair gates are provided if you need to manage where your dogs roam inside, and there's a ground floor twin bedroom with an adjacent bathroom — handy if you have an older dog who'd rather avoid the stairs. One thing to be aware of: the property borders horse paddocks, which some dogs will find very interesting.
