Easington, North Yorkshire

A three bedroom sandstone barn for five at Easington between Staithes and Skinningrove, with a spacious enclosed lawn at the back and two small dogs welcome.

Book now

Between Staithes and Skinningrove, on the edge of the North York Moors, the village of Easington sits back from the cliffs, and The Hayloft is built from the golden sandstone the whole coast is made of. This dog friendly barn conversion sleeps five, and two small dogs are welcome.

It runs over three floors. Downstairs, kitchen, dining table and sofas share a single open room. The first floor holds a double, a single and the family bathroom, and at the top of the house is a second double under a beamed, vaulted ceiling with its own toilet. A stairgate comes with the house, which helps with small dogs and plenty of stairs.

At the back is a spacious lawned garden, enclosed, with a picnic table. It is a place for two small dogs to race about while supper cooks, and the obvious spot to eat outside afterwards. Think of a week spent walking the cliffs in the morning, poking round a fishing village in the afternoon and back on that lawn by evening, two dogs out for the count on the rug.

Footpaths from the village connect with the Cleveland Way, which follows the cliff tops here, some of the highest on the east coast of England, so dogs are best kept close on the top path. Skinningrove's beach is the nearest, and Staithes, Runswick Bay and Whitby are all along the coast within reach. Inland, the moors begin almost at once.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Hayloft dog friendly?

Yes, Hayloft welcomes dogs — specifically up to two small dogs. The barn conversion has an enclosed lawned garden at the back where they can run around freely, and a stairgate comes with the property to help manage the multiple flights of stairs.

  • Are dogs allowed at Hayloft year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. That said, the location lends itself well to year-round visits, with cliff walks, fishing villages and the North York Moors all on the doorstep whatever the season.

  • What should I know before visiting Hayloft with my dog?

The property is set up for small dogs rather than large ones, so bear that in mind when booking. The house runs over three floors with a fair number of stairs, though a stairgate is provided. Nearby walks connect to the Cleveland Way along some of the highest cliff tops on the east coast, so it's worth keeping dogs close on the top path. The nearest beach is at Skinningrove, with Staithes, Runswick Bay and Whitby also reachable along the coast.
