Natural light floods the open-plan living area. Morning coffee happens at the breakfast bar, supper at the dining table, and in the evening you can slide back the doors and listen to the wildlife on the pool while the dog settles in beside you. Later there is the wood burner, with its first logs supplied, Netflix on the Smart TV, or a good book.
Both bedrooms have their own en-suite and fabulous views over the water to wake up to. The master comes with a king-size bed and a dressing room, while the second has zip-and-link beds that make up as a super-king, or as a twin if you ask ahead. Outside, the private patio, set with table, chairs and BBQ, overlooks the fishing pool. There is a lockable store for bikes or fishing gear, and a wooded area at the rear makes a shady spot for a picnic with the dog.
Beyond the lodge the 20 acres are there to explore. Ludlow is a thriving market town on the River Teme with a medieval castle, boutique shops and restaurants, set in the south Shropshire countryside, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Walkers and their dogs head for Mortimer Forest, the Shropshire Way and the Mary Webb trail, and Stokesay Castle and the Severn Valley Railway make good days out.
