Heydon Grove Farm

Heydon, Norfolk

One of four canvas hideaways on a north Norfolk family farm near Heydon, each with its own firepit, quiet lanes to walk, and up to two dogs on the lead.

Book now

Heydon Grove lies down some of the prettiest lost lanes in Norfolk, on an arable farm that has been in Rory and Hazel's family for four generations. It became the first Feather Down in north Norfolk in 2021, with just four canvas hideaways, and it is a warm, dog friendly place to stay: two dogs are welcome, on the lead throughout the site.

Each hideaway has its three bedrooms, its own kitchen and a wood burner, with no electricity, which Rory and Hazel call their greatest luxury. Every one has a firepit outside and its own bathroom in the family farmhouse, allocated per hideaway for complete privacy. Mornings start with fresh eggs cooked on the stove while the dog waits hopefully at your feet.

Around the farm you will meet chickens and sheep in the fields, cows from neighbouring farms, and two Mediterranean miniature donkeys called Diva and Digby. Children have an outdoor playground and a covered sandpit, Rory or Hazel can arrange a tractor ride, and the evening ends round the firepit toasting marshmallows under the stars, with the dog dozing close by.

From the farm you can walk straight out along quiet country lanes and across open fields with the dog, and a lovely 20 minute walk takes you to the village of Heydon and the much loved Earle Arms. The coast is a short drive, with Wells-next-the-Sea, Cley-next-the-Sea, Blakeney and Holkham along the North Norfolk Coast, and Holt Country Park has woodland walks under 15 minutes away.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Heydon Grove Farm dog friendly?

Yes, Heydon Grove Farm welcomes up to two dogs per hideaway. Dogs are allowed on the lead throughout the site, which is shared with sheep, cattle and donkeys, so it is worth bearing that in mind before you book.

  • Are dogs allowed at Heydon Grove Farm year round?

The listing does not specify which months Heydon Grove Farm is open, so we would recommend contacting them directly to confirm availability for your dates.

  • What should I know before visiting Heydon Grove Farm with my dog?

Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times on site, as there is livestock around, and there is no enclosed garden or fenced area for off-lead time. It is worth planning your days around the network of pretty lanes nearby, or making the most of the famously dog-friendly beaches on the north Norfolk coast — Holkham, Wells next the Sea and Cley next the Sea are all within driving distance. With only four hideaways on the farm, it is also one of the quieter options around, which can make a real difference if your dog finds busy sites unsettling.
