Low Farm Cottage

Winterton-on-Sea, Norfolk

A single storey cottage for four at Winterton-on-Sea in Norfolk with two enclosed gardens, one at the front over open fields and one behind with the barbecue, and three dogs welcome.

Both of the gardens here are fenced, which is worth saying before anything else. There is a lawn at the front inside its own boundary with open fields beyond it, and a private patio at the back holding the furniture and a barbecue built of brick. Low Farm Cottage is dog friendly at Winterton-on-Sea, four people across two bedrooms, everything on one level, three dogs welcome.

Inside is one room and a great deal of light. French doors on both sides of it, velux windows overhead, the kitchen at one end, the table in the middle and the sofas beyond, so no part of the plan is dim. The double has an en-suite of its own, the twin uses the family bathroom, and there is no upstairs at all for three dogs to be shut out of.

Low Farm holds more than one property, so the lane is shared and the neighbours are on holiday too. The day takes an obvious shape from the two gardens: the front lawn and the fields first thing, the shore in the middle of it, the patio and the barbecue at the end. Three dogs will have picked their spot in each garden by the second morning and will not be talked out of either.

Seals come ashore along this stretch in the depths of the year, and pups turn up on the sand within walking distance of the houses, which is why people book here in the months nobody else is thinking about. The rest of the year the shore is simply very large and very empty. Behind it the land goes flat and stays flat for a long way. Three dogs get sand, a lane and a horizon.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Low Farm Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Low Farm Cottage welcomes up to three dogs. It's a single-storey property, so there are no stairs to navigate and no areas of the house your dogs will be shut out of.

  • Are dogs allowed at Low Farm Cottage year round?

Yes, and winter is actually one of the most popular times to visit. Grey seals come ashore along this stretch of Norfolk coast in the colder months, with pups appearing on the sand within walking distance of the cottage — which is why people book here at times of year that other places tend to go quiet.

  • What should I know before visiting Low Farm Cottage with my dog?

Both gardens are fully enclosed, which makes life considerably easier — there's a front lawn looking out over open fields and a private patio at the back with a brick-built barbecue. The beach at Winterton-on-Sea is large and generally uncrowded, and the flat landscape behind it means plenty of open space for a good walk. Low Farm holds more than one property, so you'll share a lane with other holiday guests.
