Meirion House
Abergynolwyn, Gwynedd
A charming period cottage for four in Abergynolwyn at the foot of Cader Idris, with a large enclosed garden, mountain views, a games shed and three dogs welcome.
Pull on your boots at Meirion House and go. This beautiful period cottage sits in Abergynolwyn in the foothills of Cader Idris, in Snowdonia National Park, and it takes three dogs. It is a quirky, charming dog friendly cottage for four, full of original features and creature comforts, with a large enclosed garden looking out to the mountains.
The hall has the kitchen on the left and the lounge on the right. Cooking happens in a well equipped kitchen with the dining table set by its dual aspect windows, and a useful utility room takes the washer dryer on muddy days. After supper the lounge is the place to be, with its sofas and Smart TV and a wood burner waiting for a match, three dogs spread across the floor while tomorrow's walk gets planned.
Two spacious bedrooms are upstairs, one king size, one twin, each designed for a good night's sleep. The large enclosed garden pairs a paved patio, furnished and with a charcoal BBQ, with a lawn edged with established, pretty borders, and fabulous views of the mountain range from sunrise to sunset. The dogs have the lawn, the games shed has a football and pool table, while bikes go in the lockable shed and paddleboards have plenty of room.
The Talyllyn Railway station is 0.5 miles away for a steam train to the Dolgoch waterfalls, and Tal-y-Llyn Lake and the summit of Cader Idris call for a longer outing with the dogs. Fairbourne and Aberdovey have beaches, eateries, shops and galleries, and Ynys Hir nature reserve and the Dyfi Osprey Project are within 20 miles. The Mach Loop valleys, where RAF jets train at low level, are close by too.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is Meirion House dog friendly?
Yes, Meirion House welcomes up to three dogs, which is unusually generous for a property sleeping four people. The enclosed garden gives your dogs a safe outdoor space of their own, and the ground floor bathroom makes cleaning up after a day on the hills genuinely straightforward.
Are dogs allowed at Meirion House year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. Given the setup — enclosed garden, ground floor bathroom, space for three dogs — it's clearly a place built around the idea of bringing them along.
What should I know before visiting Meirion House with my dog?
The ground floor bathroom is a real practical bonus here: you can deal with muddy dogs after a walk up Cadair Idris or along the Dysynni valley without trailing anything upstairs. The garden is enclosed with a patio, so your dogs have their own secure space outside. One thing worth knowing: military jets fly low through these valleys on training runs, and dogs tend to clock them before their owners do, so it's handy to be prepared.
