Mogg Cottage

Pickering, North Yorkshire

A stone cottage for six in Pickering, at the edge of the North York Moors, with an enclosed back garden, a wood-fired hot tub, a warm dog shower and three dogs welcome.

Book now

Three dogs is a generous allowance for a cottage in a market town, and Mogg Cottage in Pickering follows it through: there is a hot dog shower for them outside, a stair gate inside and doggy extras on arrival. This stone built, dog friendly house for six sits on the doorstep of the North York Moors, with an enclosed back garden and a wood-fired hot tub.

The owners renovated it themselves and thought about the extras, down to the dog towels. The living and dining room has a log burner, with the first fuel supplied, and the kitchen is beside it. Upstairs there is a king with its own shower room, a double, and a twin that also has bunk beds, plus a family bathroom. Behind the house, an enclosed garden holds furniture and a barbecue, with four steps within it.

This works for a family, or two couples, with a pack of dogs and a week of moor ahead of them. The routine writes itself: out onto the moor or into the forest, back through the warm dog shower, then the log burner lit and the dogs spread across the living room floor. The hot tub is for two, which settles who gets it tonight.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway leaves from the town for Whitby, steam all the way, a day out that the dogs can come along on. Pickering's castle ruins, cobbled streets and market are all on foot. Dalby Forest and Cropton Forest are both close for woodland walking, and the Hole of Horcum and Levisham Moor are there for a big day on the heather.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Mogg Cottage dog friendly?

Mogg Cottage is genuinely set up for dogs, not just tolerant of them. Up to three dogs are welcome, and the owners have thought through the details: there's a hot dog shower outside, dog towels, a stair gate, and doggy extras waiting on arrival.

  • Are dogs allowed at Mogg Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and with an enclosed garden, a warm outdoor shower and a log burner inside, the cottage is well equipped for visits in any weather. It's worth confirming dates and availability directly with the owners when you book.

  • What should I know before visiting Mogg Cottage with my dog?

The cottage takes up to three dogs and has an enclosed back garden, so there's safe outdoor space to use. Bear in mind there are four steps within the garden, which is handy to know if you have a dog with mobility needs. The hot dog shower outside is great for washing off after a day on the moors, and everything from dog towels to a stair gate is already in place.
