New Barn Farm

Carlton, Bedfordshire

Eight canvas hideaways at the edge of Blackwell Spinney on a Bedfordshire farm full of animals, with woodland and field margin walks all around and two dogs welcome on the lead.

Book now

New Barn opened its gates to dogs in 2026, and two can come along, on the lead whenever they are out on the farm. Hannah and Will Tongue farm here with their children Evie, Harry and Fergus, an hour's drive from London, and yet it feels so secluded and peaceful that this dog friendly glamping stay seems a world away from the city.

The eight canvas hideaways sit at the margins of Blackwell Spinney, facing a six acre field of grazing animals. Each is warmed by its own wood burning stove, with no electricity, and from the comfort of the hideaway you might see or hear badgers, foxes, owls, woodpeckers and muntjac deer. Your dog will be all ears for the evening chorus.

There is a whole menagerie here: a pig, sheep, pygmy goats, geese, ducks, chickens, ponies to groom and the farm's own dogs. The farm tour reveals that New Barn's wheat goes into 2 million Weetabix a year. Hannah's homemade meals can be delivered hot to the tent, and every Wednesday and Saturday Will bakes pizzas in the wood fired oven, so the dogs can doze while somebody else cooks.

You can explore the woodland, and the footpath networks and grass field margins all around the farm give a dog ample room for a proper walk. The market town of Olney is close by, Carlton is a ride away on the farm's hire bikes, and Rushmere Country Park has peaceful woodland walks with views over the lakes.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is New Barn Farm dog friendly?

Yes, New Barn Farm welcomes up to two dogs in its canvas hideaway accommodation. Your dog will have a wooden floor beside a lit fire to settle into after a day out, and beyond the farm itself there's woodland to explore, grass margins around the fields, and footpaths heading out in most directions from the nearby village of Carlton.

  • Are dogs allowed at New Barn Farm year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, but it's worth contacting New Barn Farm directly to confirm availability and any seasonal considerations before you book.

  • What should I know before visiting New Barn Farm with my dog?

The farm is home to a busy mix of livestock — pigs, pygmy goats, geese, ducks, ponies, sheep, chickens and the farm's own dogs — so leads are required at all times anywhere on the farm, and this is a firm rule rather than a formality. If your dog has a strong interest in poultry or other animals, it's worth thinking carefully about whether this environment is the right fit. A maximum of two dogs are permitted per stay.
