Coffee on the verandah, the sea in front, and a dog already standing at the gate that leads to the beach. Once Upon A Tide is an end of terrace chalet on a private park at Bacton, renovated in 2023, all on one level, dog friendly, and it takes four people and two dogs.

The decked verandah wraps round the front and sides, and below it there is an enclosed front garden with a terrace and furniture, which is the ground that belongs to the chalet and where the dogs can be off the lead. Beyond that the park is shared. A large communal meadow runs between the chalets, and the park has its own private entrance to the sand, so dogs need a lead through the shared grounds and the fence of the front garden marks where yours ends.

Inside, the space is open plan: living, dining and a kitchen with an induction hob, then a double bedroom, a twin and a shower room, with two steps up at the door and nothing else to climb. The owners leave a welcome pack with extras for the dogs, and it is the kind of place where two of them settle on the verandah boards by the second afternoon and treat the view as theirs.

The beach at Bacton is a long run of sand, used for sea fishing, and the coast path follows it in both directions. Bacton Woods, inland, has trails for dog walking and a picnic. Horsey, a little further down the coast, is where grey seals come ashore to have their pups between December and February, and its windpump stands over the marshes behind the dunes, a good turning point for a dog walk.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Once Upon A Tide dog friendly?

Yes, Once Upon A Tide welcomes up to two dogs. The chalet has an enclosed front garden where dogs can be off the lead, a wraparound verandah they'll likely claim as their own, and a private park entrance that leads directly to the beach at Bacton.

  • Are dogs allowed at Once Upon A Tide year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and there's nothing to suggest they aren't welcome throughout the year. It's always worth confirming directly with the owners if you're planning a visit at a specific time, particularly if you're hoping to catch the grey seal pupping season at nearby Horsey between December and February.

  • What should I know before visiting Once Upon A Tide with my dog?

Dogs need to be kept on a lead through the shared park grounds — the fence of the enclosed front garden marks where your private space begins and where they can roam freely. The chalet is all on one level with just two steps at the front door, which makes it easy going for most dogs, and the owners leave a welcome pack that includes extras for four-legged guests.
