Pearl Cottage

Whitstable, Kent

A two bedroom cottage for two in Whitstable with an enclosed garden, a balcony looking out to sea and one dog welcome, a couple of minutes from the shingle and the harbour.

One dog, two people and two bedrooms, which is a more generous set of proportions than those numbers suggest. Pearl Cottage is a dog friendly cottage a couple of streets back from the water in Whitstable, an enclosed garden behind it and, at the front, a balcony looking out to sea. The shingle is close enough that the dog is at the door before anybody has found the second boot.

Two bedrooms for two guests means one of them is spare, and in a house this size a spare room is where the bed, the towels and the rest of the freight that arrives with a dog goes instead of the hall. One room holds a king and the other a single. The shower is over the bath, which washes a dog and a person without wanting two rooms to do it in.

The balcony is the part people remember. It faces the water, takes two chairs, and sits high enough that a dog lying on it hears the whole town going about its evening. Days here tend to end the same way: back off the shingle, everything rinsed, one dog asleep indoors and the two of you outside above the street until the light finally goes.

Whitstable has landed oysters for as long as anybody has troubled to write it down, and the harbour still works, so the front here is fish sheds and boats rather than amusements. The town beach is shingle with huts along the back of it and the shore walks in both directions from there. A dog gets a working seafront instead of a promenade, and of the two that is decidedly the one with more to smell.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Pearl Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Pearl Cottage welcomes one dog. It has an enclosed garden at the back, and the shingle beach is close enough that you'll barely have both boots on before the dog is at the door ready to go.

  • Are dogs allowed at Pearl Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that Whitstable's working harbour and shingle shore make it a genuinely good destination for dogs at any time of year.

  • What should I know before visiting Pearl Cottage with my dog?

The cottage accommodates one dog and two guests, with two bedrooms — so there's a spare room that works well for storing all the kit that tends to travel with a dog. The shower is over the bath, which is practical for rinsing off after a day on the shingle, and the enclosed garden gives your dog a safe outdoor space.
