Pennant View is a 19th century farmhouse at Whitford, set high above the Dee Estuary with views across the fields and water from its enclosed garden. Five star and dog friendly, it sleeps eight, and three dogs are welcome. The garden has a proper outdoor kitchen in it, and by the third evening nobody is cooking indoors.
Three dogs and eight people need the garden to be a real one, and it is: large and enclosed, the front laid mostly to lawn with established trees and shrubs, and a hot tub, corner sun deck and patio table alongside the outdoor kitchen. From the garden gate a public footpath leads down to the Wales Coastal Path, so the best walk of the week starts without the car.
Indoors, the old bakery is now the boot room, with its original bread oven and quarry tiles, somewhere to kick off boots and hang coats before three dogs follow you through to the kitchen. Exposed beams and a log burner, opening logs on the house, make the snug the cosiest room, and the dining room and the lounge, with French doors to the patio and the estuary beyond, follow round from it. Upstairs are a library landing, a king, a super king and a twin, while the fourth bedroom, a double with its own en suite, has separate stairs from the garden.
Holywell, 2.5 miles away, keeps the world famous 7th century well of St Winefride, and the sandy beach at Talacre is a short drive. Walkers have the Wales Coastal Path, the Pennant Walk, Offa's Dyke and the Clwydian Range nearby, which gives three dogs a new route every day, with Mold, Denbigh, Conwy and Chester for the days off the hill.
