Whitford, Flintshire
A four bedroom house for eight at Whitford with a large enclosed garden, a built in outdoor kitchen, a snug with a wood burner and three dogs welcome.
Pennant View sleeps eight at Whitford, a few miles inland of the coast, five star and dog friendly, four bedrooms and two bathrooms with a snug alongside the lounge. Three dogs are allowed, which changes who can come. The garden has a proper outdoor kitchen in it, built in rather than wheeled out, and by the third evening nobody is cooking indoors.
Three dogs and eight people need the garden to be a real one, and it is: large, enclosed, the outdoor kitchen at one end, a gas barbecue, a bistro table for two and a longer one for everybody. The dogs have the lawn to themselves and nobody stands holding a gate. A bike store takes whatever came on the roof rack.
Indoors splits in two, which is what a second sitting room is for. The lounge has the television and the sofas; the snug has the wood burner and a door, so one person can read while the kitchen is at full volume, and one dog will settle in there and stay. Bedrooms are a super king that zips into a twin, a king, a further twin and a double, with a bathroom and an en-suite shower room.
In a field outside the village stands Maen Achwyfan, a wheel headed cross 3.4 metres out of the grass, carved a thousand years ago and left alone in the middle of nothing in particular. Thomas Pennant, the naturalist whose books started a fashion for walking in Wales, lived and wrote at Downing in the same parish, and the lanes he used are still lanes. Three dogs will cover a good many of them without meeting a car.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is Pennant View dog friendly?
Yes, Pennant View welcomes up to three dogs, which makes it genuinely useful for households with multiple pets or groups travelling together. The garden is large and fully enclosed, so dogs have the run of the lawn without anyone needing to watch a gate.
Are dogs allowed at Pennant View year round?
The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. What is clear is that the property is set up with dogs as a permanent consideration rather than an afterthought.
What should I know before visiting Pennant View with my dog?
The three-dog limit is worth keeping in mind when planning your group, as it does shape who can realistically come. Once you're there, the enclosed garden gives dogs plenty of space, and the surrounding lanes around Whitford are quiet and well suited to longer walks — Thomas Pennant himself used them, and they've stayed much the same.
