Book now

Penycommin is a traditional detached cottage set slightly above its surroundings on the edge of the hamlet of Talyllyn, near Brecon, with sweeping views across the Black Mountains and Llangorse Lake. Surrounded by countryside deep within the National Park, it is a pet friendly cottage and a dog friendly base for families and couples, with two dogs welcome.

Indoors, a well stocked bookcase holds books, DVDs and CDs, and there is a large selection of board games for evenings in, with the dogs curled up close by. Freesat plays on the lounge's Smart TV, and the kitchen is kitted out for a self catering week. Five can sleep here, across a king size room, a twin and a single.

The enclosed garden is a delight. Ponds attract all sorts of wildlife, including the great crested newt, and a table and chairs stand ready beside the charcoal BBQ for supper with the view while the dogs settle beside the table after a day on the hills. Cyclists will find an open bike rack too.

Llangorse Lake, the largest natural lake in South Wales, is the place to hire a rowing boat, kayak, Canadian canoe, paddleboard or fishing boat, and climbing, mountain biking and horse riding are all on offer nearby. The Brecon Beacons are on hand for big days out walking with the dogs, and for slower days the market towns of Brecon, Crickhowell and bookish Hay-on-Wye are all close enough to explore.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Penycommin dog friendly?

Yes, Penycommin welcomes up to two dogs. The garden is enclosed, so your dogs have room to roam safely, and indoors they have the run of the lounge floor with a door never far away.

  • Are dogs allowed at Penycommin year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, and with an enclosed garden that brings in wildlife throughout the year, it's set up for dogs across the seasons. The nearby hills at Cefn Moel and Buckland Hill are there whenever you arrive.

  • What should I know before visiting Penycommin with my dog?

The garden has wildlife ponds that are home to great crested newts, so it's worth walking the fence line on your first afternoon to get a sense of the layout before letting your dogs out unsupervised. The ground around the water is enclosed, but knowing where everything is will help you keep an eye on two dogs who will almost certainly notice the ponds before you do.
