Book now

Pistyll Gwyn is a 17th century detached cottage at Llanover with views down the valley all the way across to the Malvern Hills, set within mature enclosed gardens. Waymarked footpaths lead from the front door, a country pub is a walk down the lane, and this dog friendly cottage sleeps four with two dogs welcome.

Step inside and the conservatory has a dining table and chairs looking out at the glorious views of the Usk Valley, a lovely place for breakfast with the dogs at your feet. It leads into the lounge, cosy with comfortable seating and soft furnishings, where the wood burner and a film on the Smart TV make the evening. The kitchen is at the front of the cottage and well equipped, and up the stairs are two bedrooms with garden views, a double and a super king zip and link, along with a shower room.

Outside, the terrace has seating and a charcoal BBQ for evenings stargazing under Brecon's Dark Sky Reserve, and the private wood fired hot tub has hydro massage, bubbles and LED lights, with bathrobes and towels supplied. The dogs can settle on the terrace while you soak. Breakfast packs, logs and local produce can be arranged with the owner in advance, and there is lockable storage for bikes.

The walking starts from the door, with the Blorenge 5.5 miles away and the Black Mountains beyond, so the dogs have a new hill for every day of the week. The award winning pub down the lane serves food and puts on live music, the Big Pit at Blaenavon and Abergavenny's castle are close by, and Llangorse Lake, the largest natural lake in Wales, is there for water sports.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Pistyll Gwyn dog friendly?

Yes, Pistyll Gwyn welcomes up to two dogs. The cottage sits within mature enclosed gardens that have had three hundred years to grow, so there's a proper boundary around the space rather than fencing that was put up as an afterthought.

  • Are dogs allowed at Pistyll Gwyn year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the cottage is set up well for dogs in any season — a wood burner, enclosed garden, and good walking on the doorstep make it a solid choice whatever the weather.

  • What should I know before visiting Pistyll Gwyn with my dog?

The cottage is best suited to two dogs and four people — that's the size it's been designed around, and it does it well. The enclosed mature gardens give dogs space to settle outside, and the walking from the lane heads into farmland and woodland rather than open mountain, which suits dogs that like to cover distance. Llandegfedd Reservoir is also nearby to the south, with paths around the water if you want to mix up your routes.
