A detached cottage for four near Ludham on the Norfolk Broads, with a wood burner, an enclosed back garden over the meadows, and three dogs welcome.

Book now

Three dogs are welcome at Pixies Wood Cottage, which is one more than most places allow. This detached dog friendly retreat sleeps four near Ludham on the Norfolk Broads, set among woodland and marsh with an open view across meadows where the river winds through, and the birdlife is the point of the place.

The garden wraps round the house, and the enclosed part is the back garden, which has seats and a table for the evening. There is a dyke, a drainage channel of open water, at the end of the garden, so dogs need watching near it, and anyone with a keen swimmer will want to know that before the first morning. The meadows and river beyond are wildlife country, and dogs go on leads out there.

Inside the house is on three levels. The living room with its wood burner is down on the lower ground floor, the kitchen, dining room, utility and bathroom are on the ground floor, and the two bedrooms are above, the twin reached through the king. Some of the stairs are steep or narrow, which is worth weighing up with an elderly dog. Doggy extras are left in the welcome pack; the binoculars are yours to bring.

Hickling Broad and its nature reserve are close, with a circular walk round reed beds full of marsh harriers, and Womack Water and Potter Heigham are the nearest places to hire a boat. The coast is 10 miles off, where the wide sands at Sea Palling and Winterton are backed by dunes and a dog can run for as long as it likes.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Pixies Wood Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, and generously so — Pixies Wood Cottage welcomes up to three dogs, which is one more than most holiday lets allow. It's a detached cottage near Ludham on the Norfolk Broads, with an enclosed back garden and plenty of walking country on the doorstep.

  • Are dogs allowed at Pixies Wood Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. The Norfolk Broads are a wonderful destination at any time of year, particularly for wildlife watching.

  • What should I know before visiting Pixies Wood Cottage with my dog?

There's an open dyke (a drainage channel of water) at the end of the garden, so if you have a dog who loves to swim, it's good to know that before your first morning. The meadows and river beyond the garden are wildlife country, so dogs need to be kept on leads out there, and some of the interior stairs are steep or narrow, which is worth considering if you have an older dog.
