The house is new and arranged the other way up from most. Five super king bedrooms sit on the entrance floor, then a staircase drops to one big family room with the kitchen in it and doors straight out to the garden. A utility room has its own outside door and a wash basin, which is where three dogs and a pile of boots ought to arrive.
Ten people and three dogs is a lot of both, and few houses in this village can take them without somebody spending the week on a staircase. The coast path reaches Polruan within a mile, and west of it the walking runs past St Catherine's Castle towards Polkerris and round Gribbin Head. It is steep in every direction, which is a feature for a dog and a consideration for whoever is holding the lead.
