Skinningrove, North Yorkshire
An 1850s fisherman's cottage for four at Skinningrove, a short walk from the beach, with a wood burner, an enclosed front garden, a lockable rear yard and two dogs welcome.
The Quakers built this cottage in the 1850s for a local fisherman, in the days when Skinningrove was the heart of the Iron Valley and the mines here sent iron all over the world. Quaker's Cottage is now a dog friendly cottage for four in the village, a short walk from the beach, with two dogs welcome.
It has two enclosed spaces outside, and both belong to it. At the front is a garden of flowers with a sitting-out area, a pleasant place to eat and for a dog to lie in the sun. At the back is an enclosed yard with a lock, hooks for wetsuits and a store of beach kit, which makes it the natural place to deal with a sandy dog before it reaches the kitchen door.
A wood burner warms the sitting room, and the dining table beside it has shelves of books about the area, plus games and toys for the evening. The doors have handmade stained glass panels showing scenes of the coast. Upstairs, the double looks over the garden, the twin has full size beds, and the bathroom has a big corner bath. It is a quiet village, and a dog here settles into its pace within a day.
Skinningrove is a small bay mostly lived in by locals, and Cattersty Sands are a short walk round the headland. The Cleveland Way passes close by, heading one way over the cliffs to Saltburn and its pier, the other to Staithes, a fishing village huddled round its harbour, and Runswick Bay beyond. The North York Moors lie inland for a dog's longer days.

Are dogs allowed at Quaker's Cottage year round?
