Reay House

Nairn, Highlands

A Victorian villa for eight in Nairn, close to the town centre and two beaches, with a large lawned enclosed garden, two wood burners and two dogs welcome.

Book now

Nairn is a Victorian seaside town on the Moray Firth, and Reay House is one of its villas, standing in its own landscaped gardens a short walk from the centre. It sleeps eight in four bedrooms, takes two dogs with a bag of doggy extras, and makes a spacious and dog friendly base for a family in the Highlands.

The garden is large, lawned and enclosed, bordered by mature trees and shrubs, with a patio and furniture for the morning coffee. It gives two dogs real room to run, which is not always the case with a house this close to a town centre. Inside there is solid wood flooring on the ground floor, which copes well with paws.

The house has been modernised without losing its high ceilings or the sweeping staircase. There are wood burners in the kitchen and dining room and in the second sitting room, which has no television, and a gas fire in the main living room, so the evening can be spent round whichever one the dogs have chosen. Upstairs, the two principal bedrooms each have their own bathroom, the larger bed of the pair unzipping into twins if needed, and two further twin rooms share the family bathroom.

Nairn has two beaches, both within a mile of the house, with long sands running out along the firth either side of the harbour. Fort George stands on its point to the west, dolphins are often seen in the firth, and Cawdor Castle and the battlefield at Culloden are both short drives. The Cairngorms are within reach for a day on the hills with the dogs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Reay House dog friendly?

Yes, Reay House welcomes up to two dogs and even puts together a bag of doggy extras for your stay. The house has solid wood flooring on the ground floor to handle muddy paws, and the large enclosed garden gives your dogs real space to run — which is a genuine bonus for a property this close to a town centre.

  • Are dogs allowed at Reay House year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's best to check directly with the owner when booking to confirm availability for your dates. What's clear is that the house is set up with dogs firmly in mind, from the practical flooring to the enclosed garden.

  • What should I know before visiting Reay House with my dog?

Reay House takes a maximum of two dogs, so it's worth confirming this suits your group before booking. On the plus side, the garden is large, lawned and fully enclosed with mature trees and shrubs, and two beaches are within a mile of the house — making it a very easy base for dogs who love a good walk or a run on the sand.
