Bi-fold doors run across the dining end of The Old Dairy, and when they open the view is a wild flower meadow and the enclosed garden in front of it. The barn at Ryehills Farm, just outside Pickering, has been converted into a dog friendly retreat for four with one dog welcome, and it is on one level from end to end.

Out through those doors is an enclosed lawn with a terrace, table and chairs, a barbecue and the private hot tub. Next door live some goats and a sheep, which is worth knowing, because the dog will certainly want to know about them. Inside, exposed beams run over the open plan living space, the leather sofas face a wood burner with logs to start it, and the kitchen has a dishwasher and a separate utility with a washer dryer.

There are two bedrooms, a king with its own bathroom and a zip and link super king, and the family bathroom has a freestanding slipper bath and a walk-in shower for the dog's owner after a moorland day. The evening here is simple: a supper on the terrace, the hot tub as the light goes, and one dog asleep by the stove with the countryside quiet outside.

Pickering is close, with independent shops, cafes and the southern terminus of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, whose steam trains take dogs up through Newtondale to Goathland and Grosmont. Dalby and Cropton forests are both a short drive away, and the Hole of Horcum, a great bowl in the moor, makes a fine circuit with a dog.

  • Are dogs allowed at Ryehills Farm - The Old Dairy year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth contacting Ryehills Farm directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the property is well set up for dogs in any season, with a wood burner and logs inside and an enclosed garden and hot tub for the warmer months.

  • What should I know before visiting Ryehills Farm - The Old Dairy with my dog?

The property welcomes one dog, so it's not suitable for multi-dog households. It's also worth knowing that goats and a sheep live next door, which your dog will almost certainly notice, so a calm response to livestock is something to consider before you book.
