Epple Bay is at the end of the road. Sam's Snug is a one bedroom annexe in Birchington, barely five minutes' walk from the sea, attached to the owners' own home and kept for two people and one dog. It is a small, well finished dog friendly stay on the Kent coast, with everything on the ground floor.

There are two outdoor spaces and only one of them is the dog's. At the back, through patio doors from the living room, is a private enclosed garden with a courtyard and patio, a quiet spot for coffee before the beach while the dog makes a first inspection. At the front is a garden with seating that faces the woodland across the road, and that one is shared with the owners, so the dog stays on a lead out there.

Inside it is one open room with an electric wood burner, a kitchen along one side and a table, then a double bedroom and a shower room with a power shower that makes short work of a sandy dog and its owner. A welcome pack is left with doggy extras, and the owners have thought about the four legged guest as well as the two legged ones.

Birchington sits between two bays, and a dog gets to know both. Epple Bay is a small cove of sand under chalk cliffs, and Minnis Bay to the west is a long beach with the sea wall running along it towards the twin towers at Reculver. Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate are all close along the coast, and Canterbury and Whitstable are an easy day out.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Sam's Snug dog friendly?

Yes, Sam's Snug is set up with dogs genuinely in mind. The owners leave a welcome pack with doggy extras, and with everything on the ground floor and a private enclosed rear garden, it's a practical and comfortable base for a dog and their people.

  • Are dogs allowed at Sam's Snug year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth checking directly with the owners for availability at the time you'd like to visit. What we can say is that the location — with sandy coves, a long beach at Minnis Bay, and easy access to Margate and Whitstable — makes it a worthwhile trip at any time of year.

  • What should I know before visiting Sam's Snug with my dog?

Sam's Snug takes one dog alongside two guests, so it's a stay designed for a single dog rather than a multi-dog household. The private enclosed rear garden is the dog's space to enjoy freely, but the front garden is shared with the owners, so dogs need to be kept on a lead out there. The power shower is a handy bonus after a day on the sandy beaches at Epple Bay and Minnis Bay.
