There is a Petjet dog shower in the garden at Samphire, and with up to four dogs allowed, all of them free, it gets used. This is a dog friendly Victorian terrace at Bacton on the Norfolk coast, renovated top to bottom, with four bedrooms across three floors, room for ten people, and the beach 200 yards from the door.

The garden is large and enclosed, laid partly to decking with furniture and a barbecue, and it is where four dogs are sorted out on the way back in: rinsed at the shower, towelled on the decks, and let through to the house clean. A stair gate is provided, which keeps dogs downstairs and small children off the stairs. The ground floor is a big living and dining room and a modern kitchen with a breakfast area, the obvious place for a reunion to gather.

The house was made for a crowd. The first floor has two kingsize rooms, one with its own bathroom, a twin and the family bathroom, and the second floor is a den of four single beds, games, books and two games consoles, the kind of room the teenagers disappear into and the dogs go looking for. Ten people and four dogs, and still somewhere quiet to sit.

Bacton's sand runs along the whole village, and Bacton Wood inland is good for walking, cycling and a picnic with the dogs. Wroxham, the capital of the Broads, is within an easy drive, where day boats can be hired to take the dogs out along the rivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Samphire dog friendly?

Samphire is thoroughly dog friendly — up to four dogs are welcome, and there's no charge for any of them. The large enclosed garden, outdoor Petjet dog shower, and proximity to Bacton's beach (just 200 yards away) make it a genuinely practical setup for dog owners, not just a token welcome.

  • Are dogs allowed at Samphire year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs at Samphire. For confirmation of availability at specific times of year, it's worth checking directly with the property.

  • What should I know before visiting Samphire with my dog?

The garden is enclosed and large enough for dogs to move around freely, and there's a Petjet shower outside so you can rinse them off after the beach before they come indoors. A stair gate is provided to keep dogs on the ground floor, which is worth knowing if you're planning where everyone — human and canine — will sleep. Bacton Wood nearby is good for walks, and day boats on the Broads at Wroxham are dog-friendly too if you fancy getting out on the water.
